William Gallagher 2018-04-26T23:45:38Z 2018-12-11T04:25:46Z <p>I was wanting to connect my tablet to my laptop which is using PDAnet to connect to the internet through my phone. The phone is connected via USB. I tried the "WiFi Share" option through PDAnet but it directed me to the Windows Hotspot settings which doesn't allow me to select the USB connection.</p> <p>I changed the sharing settings of the connection to allow other people to use it.</p> <p>Is there any way to get Windows to recognize this connection and share it?</p> 1 Ctrl + Alt + Shift + S hotkey not working in Windows 10 at all (not even in safe mode) Nini Michaels 2017-03-23T07:16:25Z 2018-12-11T04:05:26Z <p>I am using the Romanian (programmers) keyboard in Windows 10 so that I can insert special characters using the <kbd>AltGr</kbd> key (or <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>). All of them work EXCEPT for <kbd>AltGr</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> (that should insert capital S-comma or Ș). From my understanding so far, this is equivalent to <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd>. My thought was that some other program had registered the combination and when I press it, it goes to that program instead.</p> <p>What I have tried so far, unsuccessfully:</p> <ul> <li>searching for hotkeys in the registry using nirsoft's RegScanner - nothing found</li> <li>searching for hotkeys using nirsoft's HotKeyList - nothing found</li> <li>searching for hotkeys using a vbs script from a superuser/stackoverflow post (can't remember which, I've read so many topics)</li> <li>closing all user programs one by one with task manager and trying the hotkey to see if I closed the culprit (though this did not work as well as planned, as some services would keep restarting)</li> <li>rebooting in safe mode did not make it work!</li> <li>using autohotkey to insert the character - nothing happens</li> </ul> <p>Basically the combination seems to be dead. I am not even sure if it registers. On Linux it works fine, and on Windows <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd> + other characters works fine. <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> also works fine (without the <kbd>Shift</kbd>).</p> <p>I am running out of ideas. I really thought autohotkey would work, but kept it as a last resort. Strangely enough, autohotkey displayed the following behavior:</p> <ul> <li>setting <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> to send the character Ș did nothing</li> <li>setting <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> to do something else (like display a messagebox) did nothing</li> <li>setting some other combination (like <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>W</kbd>) to send the character Ș would actually trigger the hotkey for <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> (so it would display the messagebox I set earlier).</li> <li>setting some other combination to send the unicode for Ș (U+0218) would work!</li> <li>setting <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> to send the unicode for Ș would not work</li> </ul> <p>So for the moment I have it set in autohotkey with <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>W</kbd> since it's above the S on the keyboard, but it's less than ideal. Also, I would really want to find out the cause of this.</p> 6 How do I move the "details pane" to the bottom of "File Explorer" in Windows 10 BrainStorm.exe 2016-10-13T19:23:18Z 2018-12-11T03:04:06Z <p>In windows 7/8 the details pane showed up in the bottom of "File Explorer". Yesterday, when I turn on my computer I got this <em>"We can't sign into your account"</em> message</p> <p><a href="" rel="nofollow noreferrer"><img src="" alt="popup"></a></p> <p>Logged in with temporary account, I still can open my files which located in <strong>"C:\Users\Admin\Desktop"</strong>. (+Disk error: CRC) Felix Lee 2018-12-10T19:15:52Z 2018-12-11T01:17:16Z <p>For a few months, I used the 3.5 inch WD Blue 500GB HDD and a SATA to USB <strong>docking station</strong> so that I can connect the HDD to my Raspberry Pi, to be used as a small version of NAS.</p> <p>However, in some days, Raspberry Pi didn't boot into the system so I had to connect the HDD to my laptop (through the USB port, with the dock attached!)</p> <p>It could be recognized as a 500GB drive in disk utility, but windows explorer couldn't detect anything because it was formatted as ext4 in the raspberry pi system. I tried to clean the drive and create a new partition using diskpart in cmd, and fortunately the command <code>clean</code> WORKED. However, when I entered the command <code>create partition primary</code> in <code>diskpart</code>, it showed the following error:</p> <blockquote> <p>Diskpart has encountered an error: Data error (cycle redundancy check)</p> </blockquote> <p>I did some Google search, and found that I can try using the <code>chkdsk</code> command in cmd to fix the drive physically. However, since the drive is not recognized as a volume with a drive letter, I couldn't do anything with that. (It should be in the format <code>chkdsk /f (drive letter)</code>)</p> <p>For the final step, I tried using the Low Level formatting tool from HDD GURU, but it showed an error again:</p> <blockquote> <p>Disk is write-protected; could not format the sector xxxx...</p> </blockquote> <p>And this kind of error continued to come up in the program each time the disk is read.</p> <p>Any ideas to fix this drive? Is it perfectly damanged?</p> 0 Sysprep was not able to validate your Windows installation (Win10 x64 1809) K7AAY 2018-12-11T01:06:58Z 2018-12-11T01:06:58Z <p><a href="" rel="nofollow noreferrer"><img src="" alt="Error message from Sysprep"></a></p> <p><a href="" rel="nofollow noreferrer"></a> lists the 24 errors found in %WINDIR%\System32\Sysprep\Panther\setupact.log after I tried to install Windows 10 version 1809 on a desktop machine (an Intel Dawson Canyon NUC) which runs great with 1709.</p> <p><a href="" rel="nofollow noreferrer"></a> suggested </p> <p>a) reviewing the Remaining Windows rearm count, which is 1000. </p> <p>b) looking at <a href="" rel="nofollow noreferrer"></a> for provisioned M$ Store apps removed or updated. I have dual boot computer where I can test my software on Windows 8 and 10.</p> <p>The computer has the following partitions:</p> <ol> <li>Recovery partition (300 MB)</li> <li>EFI System partition (100 MB)</li> <li>Data partition (400 GB)</li> <li>Windows 8 (40 GB)</li> <li>Window 10 preview (40 GB)</li> </ol> <p>I repeat: All works fine. Neither the installation of Windows 8 nor 10 preview produced any problem.</p> <p>Now comes the most weird thing that I have seen: As the final Windows 10 is out now, I wanted to replace the Windows 10 preview with the final Windows 10.</p> <p>I boot the installation DVD, after a while comes the screen where I can select the language. Then comes a screen with a button in the center that says "Install Now" and then comes a message "Setup is starting".</p> <p>Up to here all fine. But then comes a strange error:</p> <blockquote> <p>A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD,USB or hard disk driver. If you have CD, DVD or USB flash drive on it, please insert it now. </p> <p>Note: If the installation media for Windows is in the DVD drive or on a USB drive, you can safely remove it for this step.</p> </blockquote> <p>First: this error is not understandable. Second: It does not make any sense. When setup was already running up to here this means that it CAN read the DVD. So what driver should be missing?</p> <p>Some people reported similar problems with Windows 7 where the cause was that it did not boot from a USB 3.0 port. But this cannot be the culprit because</p> <ol> <li>Windows 10 does not have this limitation anymore.</li> <li>I tried all the 3 existing USB ports and all result in the same error.</li> <li>I installed the Windows 10 preview with the same Blueray burner on the same notebook. Why does the preview find the driver and the final not?</li> </ol> <p>I came to the conclusion that this is -once more- a wrong error message. The cause must be elsewhere.</p> <p>Then I made a very interesting test:</p> <p>I booted from the same Windows 10 preview DVD that I installed a month ago. And voilá: It also does not boot anymore. But it gives another error:</p> <p>On a black screen it tells me</p> <blockquote> <p>CDBOOT: Couldn't find BOOTMGR </p> <p>Missing OS </p> <p>No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.</p> </blockquote> <p>How is it possible that the SAME DVD, that I installed successfully one month ago, now throws an error ?</p> <p>Then I made a third test: I booted from the same Windows 8 DVD that I installed before. And this is the only DVD of the 3 DVDs where I get up to the menu which allows me to select the parition into which I want to install.</p> <p>Summary:</p> <ol> <li>Win 10 final DVD fails with one error</li> <li>Win 10 preview DVD fails with another error, although it worked before!</li> <li>Win 8 DVD runs correctly</li> </ol> <p>It is clear that this is</p> <ol> <li>Not a hardware problem: same notebook, same blueray burner, both Windows still run perfectly.</li> <li>No driver is missing because both Windows were installed without problems before.</li> <li>The DVDs are not burned wrongly, they worked before.</li> </ol> <p>For me the only explanation is that the installation of Windows 8, which I installed after Windows 10 preview, destroyed anything on that computer.</p> <p>Nevertheless both OS still run without problem, it is only the installation which is blocked.</p> <p>But what has happened? Are there any diagnose tools? Has anybody seen such a strange thing before? Does anybody know a workaround (except deleting all partitions and starting from zero)?</p> 0 Windows 10 - Constantly freezing and folder names going blank Phantom Fangs 2018-12-10T20:09:12Z 2018-12-10T20:09:12Z <p>3 weeks ago my computer was giving off an error message saying that the file ntoskrnl.exe was corrupted or missing. I went to a repair shop to get it fixed, and as you can probably tell, I have it back, working.</p> <p>For some reason ever since I got my laptop back, everything stops responding for a minute or 2, then runs fine again, about 10 minutes later, it freezes.</p> <p>Eventually folder names will go blank, and if I go into task manager everything shows except for the names, they turn blank too</p> <p>What's the problem?</p> 0 Don't show one file ON DESKTOP myscide 2018-12-04T17:48:41Z 2018-12-10T20:08:26Z <p>I want to see all my hidden files except one file (not desktop.ini, it's a folder) on my dekstop, but how?</p> 0 How to restore the original system loader? (VeraCrypt 1.2.3) neumanc 2018-09-27T10:22:38Z 2018-12-10T18:12:28Z <p>I want to restore the original system loader in order to be able to start Windows again. But I do not know how to do this. Here is where I am at right now:</p> <p>I tried to encrypt my system partition (Windows 10) with VeraCrypt. During the pre-test (i.e. before any encryption started), VeraCrypt told me that the system needed to be restarted. This should have been the moment when I should have seen the VeraCrypt boot loader, but instead, I landed in EFI shell. I found out that from there I could get into BIOS by typing EXIT. I further found out that I had to disable secure boot in BIOS in order to start the VeraCrypt rescue disk (a zip-file which I extracted onto an USB stick). I tried various options and managed to get the VeraCrypt boot loader running, or so I think because it does not say VeraCrypt boot loader, but just asks for my password However, it will not accept my password, although I am sure that I typed it correctly because using F5 I could see what I typed. I did not know what to type in as PIM, so I left it empty for default. After that nothing happens, it just says (after quite a long time): "Authorization failed. Wrong password, PIM or hash. Decrypt error(3) Invalid Parameter."</p> <p>Because of this, I gave up on Veracrypt (at least for now) and want to restore my original system loader. This should be possible because the disk is not encrypted yet. The problem is, I cannot find this option in the rescue disk menu. In the documentation it says: "Your VeraCrypt Rescue Disk contains a backup of the original content of the first drive track (made before the VeraCrypt Boot Loader was written to it) and allows you to restore it if necessary. The first track typically contains a system loader or boot manager. In the Rescue Disk screen, select Repair Options -Restore original system loader."</p> <p>Where can I find this option? VeraCrypt rescue disk 1.2.3 gives me only the following options to choose from:</p> <p>d) Decrypt OS m) Restore VeraCrypt loader to boot menu z) Remove VeraCrypt loader from boot menu c) Restore VeraCrypt loader configuration to system disk k) Restore OS header keys r) Restore VeraCrypt loader binaries to system disk v) Boot VeraCrypt loader from rescue disk h) Help e) Exit</p> <p>So how do I restore the original system loader? Somewhere I read that I had to press F8 to see the rescue menu, but that does not help either. Where can I find this option? If such an option does not exist in VeraCrypt rescue disk 1.2.3, how can I use an older version? Or is it possible to restore the original system loader by other means (i.e. using EFI shell)?</p> <p>Without help, I think my computer and all data on it is lost. I am using a dell inspiron laptop RDP to a dell inspiron desktop. This is useful to confirm you are happy to overwrite the destination file and also to catch situations where you were about to accidentally overwrite a file you wanted to keep.</p> <p>But in Windows 10 you are presented with a chunky dialog with no helpful information whatsoever.</p> <p><a href="" rel="nofollow noreferrer"><img src="" alt="Replace or Skip Files"></a></p> <p>If you click <code>Compare info for both files</code> some file details are displayed.</p> <p><a href="" rel="nofollow noreferrer"><img src="" alt="File conflict dialog"></a></p> <p>But this is inferior compared with the one displayed in earlier versions. Issues include:</p> <ul> <li>Information is less detailed</li> <li>You must still select the file you want to retain or overwrite. If you forget to, perhaps expecting the overwrite to <code>Continue</code> as the button says...nothing happens and you end up not copying the file you want!</li> <li>If the source and destination folder names are identical (as in my example), you have <strong>no idea</strong> which box you need to tick.</li> <li>There are multiple extra clicks required for each file.</li> </ul> <p>Awful. I compared copying 15,000 files (a mixture of small and large) from one folder to another via Explorer (using the above graphic) and the command prompt (using <code>xcopy *.* DEST-FOLDER /q</code>).</p> <p>From right-click <code>Paste</code> to completion using Explorer took an average of 23.56s (if you subtract the time Windows pauses while "discovering files", this reduces to 16.25s). Same operation from the command prompt took an average of 8.32s. Three iterations in each case.</p> <p>This graphic and the constant updating of the <code>Name</code> label appears to be the bottleneck. Sirap 2018-12-10T12:13:28Z 2018-12-10T12:13:28Z <p>Considering that I can get pixel perfect scrolling in both macOS as well as in Ubuntu with my Macbook air, I'm wondering what about Windows is making it so hard to achieve the same thing in Windows 10? The reason I get the impression that it's a hard problem is that neither Apple nor the 3rd party Touchpad++ driver seem able to offer this nice scrolling experience.</p> <p>To me it looks like Windows 10 supports this functionality with their support for precision trackpads. Is a Mac trackpad so much different from a precision trackpad, or wherein lies the problem?</p> <hr> <p>While formulating this question I found <a href="" rel="nofollow noreferrer">this project on github</a> which aims to do exactly the above. So now I get the conflicting messages that it's too difficult for Apple, and at the same time easy enough to be implemented by a single motivated individual. </p> <p>Does this mean that there actually aren't any technical limitations in the way of achieving this, and that the lousy trackpad experience is just a result of indifference from Apple?</p> 0 A Java application opens on some laptops but not others, cant figure out why Naz 2018-12-07T15:17:18Z 2018-12-10T11:24:00Z <p>I have a Java app, which runs fine on some laptops but not others. All laptops are Windows 10 Pro machines. The application installs the JRE as part of the app install, so I guess I don't need to install it separately - this must be true as I haven't installed Java separately on any of the laptops and the app works fine on some.</p> <p>When I say it doesn't run - after installing the app (which is an exe application file) as admin, I run the program by clicking on the program name in Start-Programs and nothing happens. However, on some laptops, doing this exact same thing actually starts the program.</p> <p>The supplier of the software is not available any more to answer questions, so cant ask them. They did say a while back though that if it works on some laptops, then it is an issue at our end so they wont do anything anyway.</p> <p>Some other info:</p> <ul> <li>Laptops are all Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.</li> <li>I have tried running the jar file using CMD prompt, but I get an error on both laptops - "Corrupted software, please reinstall". Reinstalling does not change anything. This error is present on laptops which run the program as well as those which dont.</li> <li>Double clicking the JAR file directly shows a splash screen with a message which says 'Reading database', but then nothing happens, on working laptop. On laptop which doesnt run the program, when doing this nothing happens at all - there is not even a splash screen</li> <li>If I right click the jar file and select Open With - I can see 'Java Platform SE Binary'. Selecting this gives me message 'Corrupted software, please reinstall'. This happens with both laptops</li> <li>In system PATH variables I can see - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Oracle\Java\javapath - this is in both laptops. On the laptop where the programme doesnt work, I can also see C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath</li> <li>The manifest file shows - Created-By: 1.7.0_21</li> <li>Inspecting a class file using Java Bytecode Editor, I can see they are created using JDK 1.4 - no minor version present</li> <li>I have absolutely no experience in Java, so trying to learn some stuff as I go along. I'm more of a SQL/Power BI guy.</li> </ul> <p>Is there anything I can do to figure this out?</p> <p>Edit: Just saw an error file in the program directory of the laptop where the program doesnt work. I'm purposely being verbose in hopes that some sort of keyword search or general description will help more users find the solution.</p> <p>I have a Dell Latitude laptop running Windows 10. After a recent software upgrade (it is likely the Spring Creators Update, but I'm not certain), audio coming from my speakers began sounding terrible. The bass was lacking, the audio was clipping, and it just sounded muddy, underwater, or like I was in a small enclosed room.</p> <p>I tried different audio sources from different programs, but there was no difference. To isolate the issue and help with reproducing the issue, I chose to use a specific song played back using Foobar2000.</p> <p>I tried different outputs from the same device - built-in laptop speakers, bookshelf speakers attached to a traditional external 2-channel amplifier powered by the headphone jack, a quality pair of headphones powered by the headphone jack, as well as the same external speakers via the USB-C docking station's headphone jack. Outside the difference attributed to the quality of the speakers themselves, the problem remained.</p> <p>I also tried different devices. Luckily, I had another Latitude laptop running the same software to compare to, as well as an Android device with Google Play Music. The audio issue did not persist across devices, regardless of the speakers used.</p> <p>That helped me rule out the music file, the playback software, and the output devices. It left me with the hardware or other OS software. However, since the audio was fine until a recent update and is generally left docked, I used some common sense to rule out the hardware as well.</p> <p>After attempting to use the built-in audio troubleshooter (useless), trying different driver combinations, manually installing different driver packages, and even deleting the hardware devices (from Device Manager), there was still no change.</p> <p>I checked with an audio engineer in the family, and they agreed the sound was like an equalizer had been applied to the system. But I had already ensured no OS-powered equalizer was running, nor was one configured in the DSP Manager for Foobar. My devices were all set to Stereo, not 5.1 Surround, so that wasn't the issue either.</p> <p>So what was causing me to pull out my hair?</p>  Microsoft office activator |  windows activation crack |  windows product key |  windows 10 product key |  windows 7 ultimate product key |  windows 7 keygen |  activate office 2010 |  office Project keys |  project professional product key |  office 365 office 2016 office 2013 key |  office 2016 office 2013 key |  windows 7 professional product key |  windows 8 professional product key |  windows 10 professional product key |  office 2016 professional product key |
