Konrad Viltersten http://andreidionian.com/?id=users/161760 2018-10-18T07:32:05Z 2018-10-22T14:00:03Z
On a default Win10 system, pressing e.g. <kbd>Win</kbd>+<kbd>Left</kbd> pushes the current window to the left edge of the screen setting its width to half of the screen. This is an awesome feature and I love it.

However, I can imagine additional greatness to said feature. The screens are getting larger, so half-screen-size is rather large. I'd like to be able to put a window in side-by-side mode but setting its side to e.g. one third of the width.

That way, I'd be able to quickly set up two long but narrow frames on the vertical edges and in the middle, keep the working area free or, perhaps, divide it into upper and lower halves.

The closes to it I've found is <kbd>Win</kbd>+<kbd>Left</kbd>+<kbd>Up</kbd>, which lets me set up a 2x2 array. It's okay but not perfect. Googling the issue gave me nothing except a noob blogs going bananas over the feature as it's described above. Nothing about going beyond it to more complex window arrangements.

Primarily I'm looking for a built-in way but since I'm rather certain that there's none, I'm also open for a suggestion on a utility that might achieve corresponding result.
http://andreidionian.com/?id=q/1368786 0 Deleted an improperly installed grub partition, yet drive still boots into grub Waldo http://andreidionian.com/?id=users/956141 2018-10-21T23:56:03Z 2018-10-22T13:43:08Z
So I just had a really long fiasco where I tried to install a dual boot with windows 10 and fedora 28.

In case the details of that are important (or in case you just want to laugh at my obvious mistakes), I'll list them.

after having had windows for a long time, I made a new partition for fedora and loaded the fedora installer. I selected the drive which I had made the partition on and foolishly assumed the installer would figure out that I meant to do a dual boot.

obviously, this did not work, and the computer only loaded fedora without having an option to boot into windows.

realizing (Or thinking) that a missing grub was the problem I tried to install that manually from a live disk, but I was stressed, so i didn't put much thought into where I installed it or how. (specifically, Installed it over a 1 gig partition that had something to do with fedora. probably fedora's boot partition I guess)

this broke everything (no surprise in hindsight). now fedora wouldn't load and neither would windows, all I got was a weird looking grub command line thing, which I could not do anything with. This is what I had on my screen

finally realizing my mistake, I loaded up another live disk and tried to delete both the grub and fedora partitions from my disk.

but this did not fully remove grub for some reason. now I get a weird error and grub goes into recovery mode. This error

I tried to repair the windows bootloader through various techniques.

I also tried to repair windows from the windows install disk (I selected the "fix issues that keep windows from booting" option, as that seemed the most applicable to the situation.) but evidently none of that worked.

I have already tried following the instructions in both of these posts: https://askubuntu.com/questions/429610/uninstall-grub-and-use-windows-bootloader

Grub rescue error after deleting Ubuntu partition

so... In short, How do I get rid of the ghost grub and get back to windows? (to clarify, I did not delete any partitions with windows data on them, so I would guess that my installation is still intact)

[edit] It also just occurred to me that a windows refresh (the one that doesn't delete your files) might help.

I know that windows is still there somehow because I can still access it's file system on a live disk, so I'm in the process of backing that up in case the refresh doesn't work.

I'll try that today and delete the post if it works, or edit it again if doesn't.
http://andreidionian.com/?id=q/1021033 17 Disabling Realtek audio notification on Windows 10 joepin http://andreidionian.com/?id=users/540262 2016-01-03T02:50:39Z 2018-10-22T13:05:22Z
I have HP's Bang & Olufsen stuff factory installed. This appears to be built on top of Realtek HD Audio manager, yet the sound manager is still B&O. I want to disable the realtek notification every time I un/plug anything from/into audio jack. I can't find any jack detection options on my comp.

Disabling the notification in Windows settings disables until a restart of the computer. I couldn't find any way to change windows notifications besides the Windows 10 settings app which clearly has some issue that's causing this problem.

I have this HP laptop running Windows 10 Home Version 1511 Build 10586.29. I'd prefer not having to switch audio drivers if possible.

Any ideas how to permanently disable this notification?

(To be clear, I only want to disable this one notification and no others. I know that I can disable all Windows notifications but I do not want to do so).
http://andreidionian.com/?id=q/1368745 0 How can I open and display permanently the windows "sound control" shown in the picture? That is to say:

ping B -4 Pinging B [192.168.1.101] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.1.101: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=128 ping B -6 Ping request could not find host B. Please check the name and try again. ping B Ping request could not find host B. Please check the name and try again.

The other machines can be pinged fine from A, and everyone can ping everyone else (4 and 6), except for A pinging B with IPv6. A uses Windows 10, B uses Windows 7, all well updated. The two others use Windows 10 and 7.

I've rebooted all machines, done
ipconfig /renew
and
/flushdns
and a couple obscure
netsh reset
commands, without any change in (non-)connectivity. The HOSTS file does not contain any related name.

I'd think the router is not the culprit, as it uses default settings and almost everything passes through fine. I'm at a loss trying to figure out what could lead to this scenario.

Output of
ipconfig /all
on A:

Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : (A) However, it didn't pop up. I moved my mouse off of Firefox and the taskbar unhid, as it should have, but Firefox was on top. As far as I can tell, every time I move focus to Firefox, it goes over the taskbar.

Now, this is a problem. I need to be able to access the taskbar whenever I want to, without moving my windows around to get a clear look at the desktop. (Yes, I'm aware that there's a button on the taskbar to minimize all windows, but the key thing here is that it's covered. Like the rest of the taskbar.) As far as I can tell, this is only happening with Firefox, though I do remember it happening with other applications, albeit not every time I focus the window.

How can I stop the taskbar from being hidden by Firefox? Is it possible to do this without compromising the ability to allow full-screen appliations to go on top?

I've done a bit more testing, and at least at the moment, this is what's happening:

I'm having a wonderful day, editing this post.

I move my mouse to the bottom of the screen:

I sigh exasperatedly and click on the taskbar.

The taskbar goes above Firefox.

I do whatever I had to do with the taskbar.

I go back to Firefox.

Repeat.

NB: I am explicitly not looking for a one-time solution. Sure, it's just another couple of clicks and maybe a drag, but having to do that every time is a pain in the cloud.

NB 2: Also, it's not every time I start Firefox, only about one in ten (ish; I haven't been using Win10 much).
http://andreidionian.com/?id=q/1363116 1 Windows-10 auto-correct, how to use it with the keyboard? solarc http://andreidionian.com/?id=users/7216 2018-10-02T04:02:03Z 2018-10-22T07:49:57Z
I want to try using the Windows 10 auto-correct with my keyboard, not with the mouse. LPChip http://andreidionian.com/?id=users/311586 2018-10-21T17:44:22Z 2018-10-21T19:21:02Z
Before downvoting, please read the post.

I'm using Windows 10 v1803, and I noticed by accident that you can group tiles to a folder.

I have tiles, set their size to small, and then I dragged one ontop of the other and it formed a nice group. Grouped, they are very tiny, but you click on them to unfold them similar as how it is done in iOS mobile.

Now, you think I figured it out as you can read above on how to do it, but when I tried to do it a second time, instead of grouping, it just pushes the other icon aside and it won't group.

Eventually after crazy mouse movements I got it to keep one icon on its size, changing the border to a bigger border indicating it would group and the other icon could hover it. Dropping it did indeed create the group.

So I tried it once more, and again, I just could not get it to group. Eventually after lots of wiggling, it was allowing the group again. I must be doing something wrong because I don't think: try until you have luck, is the method Microsoft intended.

Here is what it looks like:

So, TL;DR: What is the correct way to group tiles in the Windows 10 Start Menu?
http://andreidionian.com/?id=q/1306572 1 Unable for format Mini PC - X5 with Windows toffee.beanns http://andreidionian.com/?id=users/886128 2018-03-21T18:27:11Z 2018-10-21T18:45:10Z
I recently purchased a X5 Mini PC from the following site and was trying to have a clean install of Windows 10 instead of the pre-install copy with android.

During the installation process, I was thrown with an error stating that "Setup was unable to create a new system partition: Fix for Windows".

I have tried to work on this for a couple of nights along with this guide to use diskpart to pre-format and prepare the disk.
